The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced that the licenses of approximately 50 large-scale mining enterprises may be withdrawn in the coming days as part of an ongoing licence review process.
Mawusi Ama Mawuenyefia, the Ministry’s Director of Public Relations, made the announcement during a press event on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
According to her, the Ministry is conducting a comprehensive examination of mining permits for both small- and large-scale activities in order to rectify regulatory infractions.
“We had also indicated that we were reviewing the small-scale licences regime. We started that exercise, and about 906 initially faced possible revocation. After a fair review to correct any irregularities, 258 small-scale licences were eventually revoked,” she explained.
Large-scale mining corporations are now included in the process, according to Madam Ama Mawuenyefia.
“Today, we have 50 large-scale mining licences that face possible revocation,” she said.
She emphasised that impacted businesses will have a month to return to normal operations.
“If you find your company’s name on that list, you have a one-month period to correct or rectify the anomalies, if you have a legitimate reason why your licence should not be revoked,” she said.
The Ministry stated that the action is a component of government initiatives to improve mining industry regulatory compliance and guarantee that all activities closely follow set standards.
