    571,894 candidates sit for BECE today

    The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says 571,894 candidates are sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) commencing Monday, November 15.

    Information from the Council sighted by Ghananewsprime.com reveals that out of the total figure, about 287,605 candidates are males whiles 284,289 are females.

    The number of participating schools, according to WAEC, stands at 18,028. Also, about 2,158 examination centres are hosting this year’s candidates.

    The Ashanti Region presented the largest number of candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examinations.

    As 111,432 students sit for the exams in the Ashanti Region, the Greater Accra Region presented 105,539.

    Again, in the Eastern and Central Region, about 55,930 and 63,727 candidates respectively are partaking in the exams to further their education at the secondary institutions.

    Meanwhile, the Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, is optimistic this year’s candidates will come out with flying colours at the end of their examination.

    The sector minister believes that the over 571,000 candidates’ bravery and determination ahead of the exams will ensure their success.

    “Your determination and talent will help you achieve success in your examination. Do not fear, and keep up your effort. I have strong faith that you will rise and shine in your exams,” he stated.

    Also, the wife of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has wished the candidates success as they sit to write their exams after years of preparation.

    Best of luck to our final year students, as you begin your Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) today. I wish you the very best and pray that the Almighty guides you through successfully.

    Taking to social media, Mrs Samira Bawumia prayed for the Almighty God’s guidance to help the candidates complete their primary education.
