After catching a massive 6st 8lbs fish almost as heavy as himself, an 11-year-old British boy has broken a junior angling world record for the biggest common carp catch.
Callum Pettit was on a fishing trip with his father and friends in France when he caught the fish.
The massive common carp set a world record for a junior angler, according to Callum from Ashford, Kent.
Stuart Pettit, his father, said: “For about 20 minutes, he played with the fish, slowly pulling it up and winding it towards him.
“We had no idea how big it was until we got it into the net.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime catch for Callum, who was 11 at the time.”
Callum can be seen running from the water in disbelief, jumping up and down with his hands on his head in a video after his big catch.
“I couldn’t believe how big it was,” Callum, who weighs 7st 2lb, said. “My arms were really aching.”
Since he was a toddler, Callum has gone fishing with his father.
“It’s been the holiday of a lifetime and this was just an amazing experience as dad, seeing his own son bank a once in a lifetime fish,” his proud father wrote on Facebook. Proud father does not begin to describe it, and it is something that will stay with us both for the rest of our lives.
“It still feels like a dream, but what a huge moment I’ll never forget. It’s even better to have it captured on film and be able to relive the experience.”
