An internal board has been established to look into the fatal stampede that happened during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise, according to Acting Minister of Defence Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
Dr. Forson sent GAF’s condolences to the impacted families and expressed deep sadness over the tragedy in a speech to Parliament on Wednesday.

“The Ministry of Defence deeply mourns the loss of lives and extend condolences to the affected families. We’re working closely with the Ghana Armed Forces, medical teams and law enforcement agencies to provide full support to the injured and to investigate the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
“As a result, the Ghana Armed Forces has instituted an internal board of inquiry to investigate the cause of the this unfortunate incident. The safety and dignity of applicants remain paramount and the ministry will take every step necessary to prevent recurrence of this matter.”
“The board will look into the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident, ensure accountability, and recommend measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” he stated.

The board’s makeup and the investigation’s timeline have not yet been made public.
On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, thousands of job hopefuls gathered at El-Wak Sports Stadium for the GAF recruitment exercise, which resulted in the stampede.
Six individuals were confirmed dead in the event by the Ghana Armed Forces, and several more were injured and are being treated at the 37 Military Hospital.
While the inquiry continues, the hiring process has been put on hold until further notice.
