A man shown in a ‘warning gun shots salute’ video with Nigerian rapper Asake and friends was arrested on the orders of the IGP.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, ordered the police to arrest and hold a guy who was shown in an online video firing warning shots as a pistol salute to Nigerian rapper Asake and his pals during an event as part of the December in GH events.

The man with the gun was seen in the footage wearing a white mufti.

According to a police source who spoke with Graphic Online, the gun was recognised as a DERYA MK-12 with the number 22-GHA 1162 when it was recovered following the arrest.

He informed the audience that warning shots are prohibited in Ghana, but on that particular occasion, when his “brother from another mother” was in town, he was asking the authorities for permission to fire some shots to celebrate him. He then raised the gun on his shoulder and fired ten shots into the air, to the delight of the musician and his friends.

Police recovered the DERYA MK-12 with the number 22-GHA 1162.

The Inspector General of Police became aware of the situation after the incident and the video’s online distribution, and he issued an order for the man’s arrest.

An official announcement regarding the arrest has not yet been released by the police.

According to some accounts, the man is a police officer who frequently patrols Accra’s East Legon Hills and Adjiringanor neighbourhoods. He was also a fan of numerous musicians and film personalities.

He may be seen on a Tiktok account interacting and taking selfies with different movie and music stars who pass by his duty checkpoint posts in a number of videos and pictures.
