An investigation into a robbery involving a delivery rider in Tantra Hill, Accra, has been reported by the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Unit.

The arrest comes after two armed individuals ambushed and robbed a courier rider during a delivery on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

The rider received a delivery order from an Achimota restaurant to a place in Tantra Hill, according to the police.

When he reached his destination, two men riding motorcycles confronted him. Threatening to kill the rider if he resisted, one of the suspects brandished a machete and attacked him in the back with its blunt end.

The rider tried to defend his motorbike and Samsung A05 cell phone, which were snatched from him during the attack, out of fear for his life.

The victim reported the robbery to the police after suffering damage to his left hand.

The culprit was located by members of the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Unit after prompt investigations.

Akwesi Atanzumi, a 29-year-old male, was detained by the police on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Agbogbloshie when he was trying to sell the stolen motorbike.

Atanzumi admitted to his role in the crime during interrogation and identified Shadrach, an accomplice who is presently at large.

The stolen motorcycle was found, according to the police, and is currently being held as evidence for further enquiries.

Shadrach, Atanzumi’s accomplice, is currently being sought after, and the authorities have vowed to do all within their power to capture him.

The public was reassured by Ms. Juliana Obeng, Superintendent of Police and Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, during a press briefing on Tuesday, December 23, that the police are dedicated to preventing violent crime and guaranteeing the security of citizens, especially delivery riders who are frequently at risk of such attacks.

She urged the public to report any suspicious people or actions that would help stop similar incidents, emphasising the significance of community involvement in crime prevention.

Now that Atanzumi is in arrest, authorities are pursuing their investigations, which include finding Shadrach, his accomplice, and figuring out whether the suspects are engaged in any other criminal activity.

The public has also been asked by the police to provide information that could be used to find Shadrach or identify other possible culprits.

The Accra Regional Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to upholding security throughout the area, particularly in light of the ongoing concerns expressed by locals and business owners regarding robberies and violent crimes.

The public and delivery riders are being advised by the authorities to take additional safety measures to protect their possessions. It is recommended that riders refrain from transporting substantial amounts of cash or valuables that can make them targets for thieves.
