Many Ghanaians are appealing to traders to familiarize themselves with emergency exit and fire safety protocols in case of a fire outbreak by so doing will help save life and prosperities.
The President and Chairman of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, Mr. Henry Okyere Jnr., has issued a strong caution to all spare parts dealers and market hubs across Ghana in light of recent fire outbreaks affecting businesses.
Mr. Okyere Jnr. has urged all members to prioritize fire safety measures to prevent devastating losses.
He emphasized the need for comprehensive Insurance Coverage: All businesses should ensure they have insurance policies to protect against unforeseen fire incidents. Options include Enterprise Insurance Ltd. and GLICO General Insurance Company Ltd., both of which offer Fire & Allied Perils Policies covering damage caused by fire, lightning, explosions, and other risks.
Electrical Safety Precautions
The Dealers must be mindful of switching off electrical appliances, lights, and power switches at the close of business each day to prevent electrical faults that could lead to fires.
Mandatory Fire Extinguishers
Mr Okyere Jnr, urge every store and business premise must be equipped with fire extinguishers, and staff should be trained on how to use them in case of emergencies.
General Fire Safety Awareness
According to him, businesses should conduct periodic safety checks, work closely with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), and report any fire hazards within their areas.
“We have witnessed unfortunate fire incidents that have destroyed people’s livelihoods. As an association, we must take proactive measures to protect our businesses, employees, and customers. I urge every member to ensure they have insurance and fire extinguishers while following strict electrical safety protocols,” he added.
The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association will continue to engage stakeholders, including the Ghana National Fire Service and insurance providers like Enterprise Insurance Ltd. and GLICO General Insurance Company Ltd., to promote fire safety awareness and ensure businesses are adequately protected.
