The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Roads and Transport Committee, Kwame Agbodza, has voiced worry over the suspected misappropriation of GHS 450 million meant to address Accra’s recurring floods.
The words of the Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Bakye, need to be scrutinized more closely, according to the Adaklu MP.
These concerns follow recent catastrophic floods in sections of Accra, which wreaked havoc with each rain.
“If they spent GHS450 million and this is the result, everyone can tell you the money was not spent properly,” he said.
“When I looked at the budget allocated to the Ministry of Works and Housing, I didn’t see any significant money given to them to make any proper intervention,” Mr. Agbodza added.
As a result, he challenged the Minister to account for the alleged GHS 450 million.
“Unfortunately, the Minister went around doing what everyone before him had done. Inquire how much you spent. “He should just tell us where that GHS450 million went,” he said.
Following the Minister’s remarks, there was more flooding on Tuesday after more than eight hours of rain
