In a controversial statement, Ahafo Regional Deputy Chief Imam, Imam Ahmed Muhammed, has called for individuals engaging in LGBTQI activities to be sentenced to death by hanging. However, he proposed that they should not face imprisonment.
Imam Ahmed Muhammed made these remarks during a sermon at a local mosque, where he expressed strong condemnation towards LGBTQI practices, labeling them as immoral and against religious teachings.
According to the deputy chief imam, implementing the death penalty would serve as a deterrent to others considering such acts, while also upholding the moral fabric of society. He emphasized that this stance is in line with Islamic principles and teachings.
The statement has sparked widespread debate and criticism from human rights activists and advocacy groups, who argue that such extreme measures violate fundamental human rights and freedoms. They stress the importance of promoting tolerance, acceptance, and equality for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Imam Ahmed Muhammed therefore call on Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo not to delay after parliamentarians passed this bill but assent the money.
