Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram, Mr Sam Nartey George, has been reacting to claims that arrested Chinese national Aisha Huang holds a Ghana card bearing the name Huang En.
Huang was deported from Ghana in 2019 for engaging in illegal mining.
She, however, snuck herself back into the country and was recently re-arrested for the same offence.
The ‘Galamsey queen’ is facing two charges: mining without a licence and engaging in the sale and purchase of minerals without a valid licence.
She was arrested with three others: Johng Li Hua, Huang Jei and Huaid Hai Hun.
Social media is awash with her Ghana card.
The Ningo Prampram MP, in a tweet, following the allegations, noted that when the government’s digitalisation of the economy, including the Ghana card, is questioned, it is always quick to jump to the defence.
“When we raise questions about the efficiency of the systems that government trumpets, we are called names and described as sceptics.”
The opposition MP added: “It is great to pursue digitalisation but a shoddy approach to tech deployment is a bigger threat than not having tech at all. God save this Republic.”
The Galamsey queen holds a non-resident Ghana card.
The card has the date of issue as February 27, 2022, and is due to expire on February 26, 2023.
