Akuffo-Addo is Rawllings’ Nephew – Great Historian Reveals.
The Akwamu state has made a near-unbelievable claim that suggests that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is a nephew of late former President John Jerry Rawlings. Detailing on the matter, the Chief of Staff and Curator of Akwamu Museum, Nana Samanhyia Darko II explained that contrary to popular opinion, Nana Addo is not an Akyem, but rather Akwamu.
He said, “Akufo-Addo is a royal in that house. His aunty was the Queen mother and his sister is now a Queen mother here. In the Akna system, we go seriously matrilneal, so Akuffo-Addo, by all intent and purposes, is an Akwamu- a typical Akwamu.
His grandmother migrated from here to marry in Akyem, so to Akyem, he is a royal, so, I say emphatically he is not an Akyem”
Nana Samanhyia Darko II also revealed that there is an affinity between the late J. J Rawlings and H.E Akufo-Addo. He claimed that the late mother of the former President , Victoria Agbotui was from the same royal house as the maternal grandmother of Nana Akuff-Addo.
He said “Rawlings’ mother is from the very royal house as Nana Addo’s grandmother. The Agbotui, Kugblenu, and the Hayman’s from Keta are all from this royal house (in Akwamu). It is a fact…I saw Rawlings and asked him, are you not an Akwamu and he said, ‘I am an Akwamu”.
Nana Samanhyia noted that the Akwamu state can boast of leading the liberation of black Africans through the Asamani who captured the Christiansborg Castle during the colonial era.
