Auction Fraud: Opia Mensah, Ex-Adisadel Assemblyman, Flees with GH₵2.3 Million

A joint task force made up of the Ghana Police Service, the Institute of Auctioneers, and an Accra High Court has launched a probe into a high-profile auction fraud involving Isaac Kojo Mensah, popularly known as Opia Mensah, a former Adisadel Assemblyman.
Trading under the name Hasnam Auction Mart, Opia Mensah was granted authority to auction a court-ordered property but instead orchestrated a fraudulent sale with his accomplice, Allan Kweku Otoo Idun, who is not a licensed auctioneer. The property was initially sold for GH₵2.2 million, yet not a single cedi was remitted to the court or the rightful judgment creditor.

Shockingly, further investigations reveal that the duo secretly resold the same property for GH₵4 million this time without conducting any legal auction and declared only GH₵1.6 million.

The fraudulent activity doesn’t end there.
Prior to these deals, Opia and Allan reportedly lured unsuspecting victims with false promises of auction vehicles from EOCO and Customs, amassing over GH₵2 million in payments before disappearing without delivering a single vehicle. That case is now pending at the Ministry’s Police Station in Accra.

The suspects are on the run, deliberately evading arrest, and are believed to be the masterminds behind a wider pattern of auction-related fraud.

Law enforcement is actively pursuing them and preparing for possible criminal prosecution.
