The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has backed the proposal by the government to impose a 1.75% levy on all electronic transactions, starting from January, 2022. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says 571,894 candidates are sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) commencing Monday, November 15. Information from the Council sighted by Ghananewsprime.com reveals that out of the total figure, about 287,605 candidates are males whiles 284,289 are females. The number of participating schools, according to WAEC, stands at 18,028. Also, about 2,158 examination centres are hosting this year’s candidates. The Ashanti Region presented the largest number of candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examinations. The Ministry of Health has said that health training institutions at all levels, will soon be upgraded to run a 4-year bachelor’s degree programme to meet the changing health care needs of the country.
