Residents of the Adansi area have been urged by the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (ARCC) to return any objects that were taken from the scene of the military helicopter crash that killed eight people, including two government ministers, on Wednesday.
According to intelligence assessments, some early responders at the crash scene removed personal possessions and helicopter parts from the wreckage, the ARCC said in an official statement on August 9, 2025.
Even the smallest parts, such as metals, screws, drives, or circuit boards, must be turned over right away to local authorities, such as Unit Committees, Assembly Members, or investigative officers, the Council emphasized.
The ARCC offered a monetary award for voluntary returns made prior to the deadline of Monday, August 11 in an effort to promote compliance.
It did, however, issue a warning that anyone caught keeping things over the cutoff would be prosecuted.
“Any person found in possession of such items beyond the above date would be deemed a criminal and will face the full rigours of the law,” the statement read.
Defense Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhamad (who is also the Tamale Central MP), and six other people, including political and military leaders, were murdered in the fatal crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District.
Three military officers, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, as well as former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed and NDC National Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, were among the dead.
The government responded by announcing a three-day period of national mourning, which ended on Friday, August 15, with an interdenominational state funeral held in Accra’s Black Star Square. The victims have already been honored with a flower-laying ceremony.
