Barca’s biggest weakness against Juventus and how Xavi can fix it.
Barcelona’s defense against Juventus hasn’t been very impressive.
The right side of Barca was their weakest area in this regard. Sergi Roberto and Sergino Dest have once again demonstrated that they are neither good defenders nor attack-minded players.
Particularly on the right flank, Roberto frequently left enormous gaps and didn’t track back very well.
Barca’s defense was readily breached in the game’s 17th minute, and Roberto was nowhere to be found. Sergio Busquets found it challenging to intercept the ball.
It’s important to note that against Juventus, Ousmane Dembele started on the right wing. The Frenchman, who often spends less time trailing back than Raphinha, was also useless in this situation.
How could Xavi make this right?
It seems obvious that signing Cesar Azpilicueta, who excels at both defending and facilitating assaults, is the best course of action.
Although Xavi would definitely prefer to deploy Ronald Araujo or Jules Kounde as centre-backs, playing them at right-back makes sense as well.
The squad should have stronger defense on that side of the field if Raphinha is used in place of Dembele on the right wing.
Additionally, Xavi might use the 3-4-3 formation more frequently. While both Raphinha and Dembele would be at ease on the right wing, with the Brazilian playing a wide playmaker role, Araujo would take the field as the right-side center-back.
