Barcelona are on the verge of securing the signing of David Oduro, a promising 18-year-old Ghanaian defender, from Accra Lions.
Oduro, who primarily operates as a left-back, is set to join the prestigious La Masia academy, becoming the first player to move directly from Ghana to the Catalan giants.
Oduro’s talent has been evident in his homeland, where he has already established himself as a regular at the youth level for Ghana.
His potential caught the eye of several top European clubs during a tour, where he underwent trials at Premier League side Chelsea and Barcelona.
The latter was particularly impressed by his technical and physical attributes, prompting them to pursue his signature.
Although Anderlecht and Bayer Leverkusen showed strong interest in the young defender, with Anderlecht even offering first-team opportunities, Oduro’s priority has always been a move to Barcelona.
Now that he has turned 18, Barcelona is in pole position to finalise the deal.
If the transfer goes through, Oduro will be the latest addition to Barcelona’s pipeline of young talents, with the hope that he can develop further at La Masia and eventually make his mark in the first team.
