In early days of this year’s Easter, the Bread Bakers Association in Dormaa Central Municipality in Bono Region of Ghana increased bread price by Ghc1.00.
This increment according to the bread bakers was as a result of sudden increase of products they use for bread making.
According to the bakers, the prices of products like fire wood, margarine or butter, eggs and others have been increased and in order to maintain the business, they decided to add Ghc1.00 to all types of loaves they bake.
They succeeded for hours and later the bread sellers called for a decline due to the consumers behavior towards the bread selling business.
Because consumers began complaining and the bread business became difficult for the retailers, they engaged in a peaceful demonstration to fight against the new prices.
Eventually, some bread consumers and the retailers met the bakers association to agree by the old prices to help contain and maintain the entire bread business.
According to the bread sellers in the Municipality, their customers want fresh bread always and for that matter, they cannot afford low patronage that would give them much leftovers.
They also pleaded with the bakers to continue enriching the bread with the adequate amount of ingredients like eggs, margarine and others to maintain the bread business in the Municipality and beyond because travellers and passengers also patronize their products greatly.
