The global spread of Cholera is an important reminder of the critical importance of access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene.
Speaking in an interview the Municipal Chief Executive of Prestea Huni Valley Hon Isaac Dasmani emphasized that there are more than 1.4million people die each year from diseases associated with lack of access to safe drinking water, insufficient sanitation, and poor hygiene. Without a protected drinking water source, a proper toilet or latrine and hand-washing facilities with soap and water billions of people are vulnerable not only to Cholera transmission but numerous infectious diseases that has claims many life’s.
This is why in Prestea there are hand-in-hand with access to safe, drinkable water and effective sanitation and hygiene education going on in collaboration with stakeholders.
Further stated that seems the municipality is a mining communities so there is a need to address sanitation challenges for a healthy lifestyle.
According to him, from the enabling communities in the prestea huni vally to gain access to clean water, and hygienic sewage systems to building proper toilets in the municipality, and supporting hygiene education in rural communities, we work holistically and our Water and Sanitation programmes help to ensure that the homes we build have safe, decent facilities for a family to stay healthy and be able to live their lives to their fullest.
There has been a numerous calls on the reconstitution of town council but that’s not the solution for now all the state wants is attitudinal change.
