Debate lingers over Teacher Licensure Examination
The Minority in Parliament is calling on the Ministry of Education to suspend the Teacher Licensure Examination, saying it is not useful.
Speaking to GBC News, Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Peter Nortsu Kortoe was worried that the mode of the licensing is delaying postings of teacher trainees to schools in dire need of teachers.
Meanwhile, the Institute for Education Studies has kicked against calls for the suspension of the Teacher Licensure Examination following high failures.
Speaking to GBC News, Executive Director of the Institute, Peter Anti explained that since there is an ongoing review of the professional exams to assess its loopholes, scrapping it will be premature.
“The reason given is untenable, they cannot call for withdrawal because people pass and fail. We are also aware that the Licensure Exams are being reviewed. They have to wait until the report is used, then they can provide their recommendations.’’
