The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has released a public statement alerting consumers to the fact that the power distributor no longer takes actual cash for any transactions, cautioning them against scammers taking advantage of payment methods.

In an announcement to the public, ECG stated that it has “gone fully cashless” and does not accept phone payments for services in an effort to strengthen controls and shield clients from financial fraud.

Customers were warned by the corporation to make sure that all payments for electricity services, fees, and invoices are made exclusively through channels that have been formally authorised.

The letter states that consumers must manually initiate payments via the ECG Power App or the company’s short number, *226#.

Additionally, ECG advised the public to be wary of unsolicited calls or messages requesting payment, stressing that the organization is not the source of such solicitations. Before acting, customers were advised to be cautious and confirm all payment demands.

In an effort to combat fraudulent activity, ECG urged consumers to report any unusual calls or messages to its customer care line at 0302-611611 as soon as possible.

The power distributor urged the public to assist its anti-fraud effort, emphasising the importance of customer cooperation in preventing financial losses for both customers and the business.
