Education has significantly improved under my gov’t; it’s a pity Mahama can’t see it – Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that, in contrast to former President John Dramani Mahama’s criticism, his administration has made significant improvements in education.
John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reacting to last year’s WASSCE result opined that candidates of WASSCE under President Akufo-Addo’s government are allowed to cheat to pass.
“In many places, they let the children cheat. You visit places where the teachers are collaborating with the pupils to engage in cheating. The effect will be seen later,” the former President said.
Addressing the 187th speech and prize-giving day at the Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast, President Akufo-Addo hit out at John Dramani Mahama, arguing that it is a pity he refuses to see the significant improvement in the education system of the country.
It is unfortunate, however, that some otherwise ostensibly responsible individuals—including your former president and the current NDC presidential candidate—were led by the depressing aspects of modern Ghanaian politics to question the results’ integrity blithely and without basis, accusing them of being rigged.
“The WASSCE results of the students I proudly call the Akufo-Addo graduates have shown that the quality of education has not deteriorated but on the contrary, it has improved significantly,” President Akufo-Addo said.

“The Akufo-Addo graduates’ results in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 are the only years in the last ten years that demonstrate that more than 50% of the candidates obtained A1 to C6 in all core subjects,” he went on.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo quizzed students of Wesley Girls High School, whether they cheated in examinations but it was responded with a loud NO!
He promised that the nation’s educational system will continue to receive careful attention from his administration.
