Women empowerment programme that has attracted about 1000 women in Wassa Amenfi East constituency is making women, especially young women, have a better life in future.
Projects to be trained on are liquid soap making, Omo powder, shower gel, donuts and chips.
Speaking at the commencement of the skills training program at the Boakyewaa Hotel, the parliamentary candidate hopeful, Dr Nana Afriyie said that those who are going to be trained would become the ambassadors of trainers to train other women in the constituency who were not able to attend the program.
According to him, this program forms part of his flagship project he was going to embark on when voted as the Member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi East Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.
He vowed that when given the nod, he would ensure that majority of the people would have a skill training and some handiwork in order for them to take care of themselves and their children, “Even their spouses can also learn from these upcoming trainers”.
According to the aspirant, the high rate of unemployment is worrying and needs an urgent attention, such as initiative, which to him was in the right directions, “Such skill initiatives will reduce the unemployment rate in the country”.
“Our women have surferred from scratch my back make I scratch your back and that has led the young women, especially, into prostitution, unwanted pregnancy and other forms of illnesses,” he lamented.
Dr. Nana Afriyie stressed that the time for women’s libration is now, therefore, people who have the power must at least help them with some skills training in order to get them from the hands of some wicked and unscrupulous persons in the society.
Dr. Afriyie grateful was how the women showed up in their numbers, “This shows the good women in Wassa Amenfi East are ready to become self employed “.
After the skills training some beneficiaries who spoke to journalists expressed their gratitude to the kind gesture of Dr Nana Afriyie and also called on the entire Wassa Amenfi East to vote massively for him, both in NPP primaries and the general elections.
They pointed out that, “This is a man when given the nod can transform the narrative of Wassa Amenfi East Constituency, so, let’s rally around him to take the constituency from the non-performing Member of Parliament, who is popularly known as ‘Home Boy’.
According to them, this man has shown leadership by example for doing the job that supposed to be done by an MP.
They said, “Why don’t we follow the person who knows the way and does the work of Parliamentarian, when he is not yet an MP.”
He stated that NPP is the party that believed in creating social interventions for the people of Ghana, because they do not teach the people how to eat fish, rather teach them how to catch fish unlike the NDC.
The NDC has over the years said all falsehood about the NPP in the Wassa Amenfi East, “So believed that with this project the people can judge who is saying the truth or lies.”
He urged them to deviod of politics of insults and rather speak the good things President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and NPP administration is doing for the good people of Ghana.
Dr Nana Afriyie was of the view that the 2024 is a crucial elections for both parliamentary and presidential election. For NPP to break the eight years syndrome and to win more seat in parliament must come from the united front of the party.
He pleaded with the people of his constituency to have issues base campaign.
The NPP aspirant assured that Ghana’s economy is coming back to its normal track Ghanaians should ignore propaganda of the NDC party, because the NPP is poised to take them to 40 years in opposition.
Dr Nana Afriyie said he has no doubt of winning the seat after the people have testified of seeing these interventions he put in place, such as NHIA registration for the aged, clearing of rubbish from the hospitals, extention of rural electrification and many more.
Meanwhile, the Women’s Organiser for Wassa Amenfi East Constituency, Madam Cynthia Nsiwa plea with the trainers to make good use of what they have learned because this is an opportunity for them to also earn some income.
She urged them not to just acquire the knowledge and go home to sleep on it but rather make it practical for future benefits.
In his remarks, the assistant secretary of the Wassa Amenfi East Constituency of the NPP, Mr Clement Amo said he thanked God for given Dr Nana Afriyie the wisdom to aid the women in training them in soap making and other skills
He called on the good people of Wassa Amenfi East to always have confidence in the the NPP that is the only party that believed in creating wealth for the people of Ghana and not the NDC that always comes with lies and deceit.
Mr Amo reiterated that the NPP party is grateful to the Aseda Foundation for training the women of Wassa Amenfi East.
