Engage Now Africa (ENA), in partnership with Right To Be Free and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), of the Ghana Police Service National headquarters, hosted a one-day awareness and sensitization workshop aimed at educating selected members of the Nigerian In Diaspora Organization (NIDO) and other Nigerian associations in Ghana. The event took place on Thursday, 19th September 2024, at the University of Development Studies Guest House in Accra.
In attendance were honored guest such as the director of the Human Trafficking Secretariat (Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection), the director of Administration (Crime Investigation Department), the Executive Director of Right to be Free, the director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, the Ghana Police Service, A board member of the Anti-Human Trafficking Committee also a former Staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
The workshop focused on understanding the nature, scope, and risks associated with human trafficking, particularly the increasing trend of trafficking Nigerian boys and girls to Ghana for cyber fraud and prostitution.
The session provided comprehensive insights into Ghana’s legal framework and the roles of various stakeholders, including NGOs, CSOs, CBOs, FBOs, and individuals working in the anti-human trafficking space.
Participants also explored the critical processes involved in victim management, family tracing, and reintegration of victims, with an emphasis on fostering collaboration between law enforcement agencies, NGOs, and CSOs.
This initiative reflects the shared commitment of ENA, RTBF, and other key players in curbing human trafficking within the West African sub-region.
The event underscored the importance of education and coordination in addressing human trafficking, particularly between Ghana and Nigeria, as participants were equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to enhance their efforts in combating this growing menace.
