Five men are being investigated by police in the Eastern South Regional Command for allegedly extorting money from miners while posing as representatives of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

On Friday, January 2, 2026, the suspects—Moses Tapiam, 43; Christopher Amakor, 29; Casimir Nunekpeku, 29; Wisdom Miwonuko, 35; and Paul Agbanu, 53—were placed under arrest.

The guys were detained in Akwadum in the Abuakwa South Municipality, close to Kibi, said the police. There, they were alleged to have moved between mining sites while wearing security uniforms and posing as NAIMOS agents from Accra.

The suspects were arrested and then turned over to the Eastern South Regional Criminal Investigations Department in Kibi while driving a Mitsubishi 4×4 pickup with registration number GS 536-25, according to the police.

Residents have been cautioned by the police not to pose as security guards because doing so is illegal.

Anyone caught posing as security personnel would be detained and prosecuted, according to the authorities.

The five suspects are still being held by the police and are helping with investigations. In due time, they are anticipated to be arraigned in court.
