Gender Minister Receives Delegation Of Victims Of The Dansoman Fire Outbreak

A delegation led by Hon. George Kpakpo Allotey, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma West, and representatives of traders impacted by the recent Dansoman market fire were received by Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection.

The purpose of their visit was to formally deliver a copy of the incident report to the Minister and to talk about synchronized response strategies, recovery initiatives, and the next steps required to revive the market’s economic activity.

In presenting the report, the traders made a plea for immediate aid, including financial relief, material and logistical support, and market reconstruction so they could restart their livelihoods and pay back debts accrued due to the fire.

The group acknowledged the emotional and mental toll of the occurrence and indicated that they were willing to get psychological treatment services.

They also conveyed gratitude for the humanitarian supplies they received from the state via NADMO.

In order to provide prompt interventions, the Sector Minister reassured the delegation of the Ministry’s dedication to coordinating relief and recovery operations with pertinent agencies.

She also urged the MCE to give the market’s urgent restoration top priority and explained the Ministry’s next steps based on the report’s recommendations.

The Minister emphasized that the new market should be in line with the government’s 24-hour economy agenda, provide accessibility for people with disabilities, improve safety features, improve health and sanitation systems, and support working mothers with a crèche.

In addition to expressing gratitude for the Minister’s dedication, the delegation promised to collaborate closely with the Ministry to rebuild the market and restore normalcy.
