The Ghana Education Service (GES) has denied allegations that it surreptitiously recruits teachers and sells employment letters for up to GHC 25,000.

In a statement issued on Friday, December 12, and signed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, GES stated that it was drawn to a viral video and reports circulated on several conventional media channels alleging a’secret’ recruitment effort within the Service.

Management referred to the charges as untrue and misleading, emphasising that they do not reflect the facts on the ground.

According to GES, the confusion may have resulted from the extension of financial clearance in October 2025, which was provided to allow for the onboarding of applicants from the 2024 recruitment batch whose previous clearance had expired.

The Service clarified that in certain cases, new appointment letters were sent as a result of the onboarding process resuming.

According to the statement, “applicants who had previously been issued fake appointment letters were given new genuine letters, since they could not be onboarded with the fake ones.” The beneficiaries received the replacement letters at no cost.

Therefore, GES has advised the public to notify the relevant security agencies right away if they are being requested to pay money for recruiting or if they have proof of such requests.

The Service further reassured the public that its hiring practices have not changed, stating that an official public notification inviting eligible candidates to apply is made whenever financial approval is acquired for a significant recruitment drive.

GES reiterated that its hiring procedure is transparent, open, and totally free.
