GFZA AND GIZ FORGE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TO ADVANCE GHANA’S PHARMACEUTICAL INVESTMENT STRATEGY
In a significant step towards bolstering Ghana’s industrial landscape, the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) held a strategic meeting with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH focused on aligning efforts to promote investment within Ghana’s burgeoning pharmaceutical sector, leveraging the new Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to establish Ghana as a regional hub for vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Dr. Mary Awusi, Chief Executive Officer of GFZA, welcomed the collaboration, stating that the partnership with GIZ is a testament to the Authority’s commitment to strategic alliances that directly support Ghana’s industrialization agenda. Dr. Awusi added that the transition to a Special Economic Zone model will allow the Authority to create an enabling environment for a more targeted and high-value sectors like pharmaceuticals, attracting quality investment that accelerates economic development.
Representing GIZ, the leader of the team, Mr. Victor Siebert, Component manager – private sector development emphasized the importance of a unified approach adding that the goal of the Parmavax Project is to ensure that international development initiatives are seamlessly integrated with national strategies. Understanding GFZA’s forward-looking investment promotion approach allows the team to better facilitate partnerships between Ghanaian manufacturers and international pharmaceutical firms, ensuring efforts are synergistic and drive sustainable growth.
The discussion provided a platform for GFZA to elaborate on its sector-specific incentives, infrastructure development plans, and coordination mechanisms with other government agencies. This alignment ensures that international partners and investors receive a coherent and compelling value proposition.
