Ghana started off the qualifiers for the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament with a delightful 3-0 win against Madagascar at the Cape Coast Stadium.
The victory is the first win for new head coach Otto Addo whose interim contract has been extended to December 2022.
Today, the gaffer who qualified the Black Stars to the 2022 FIFA World Cup named a strong squad to kick off Ghana’s campaign in the first round of the Group E qualifiers for next year’s AFCON.
In a game played under floodlights, the Black Stars dominated play from the start to finish but only managed to score in the second half.
On the back of frustrations from the first half, Mohammed Kudus with an assist from Felix Afena-Gyan found the back of the Madagascar net to take the lead in the 53rd minute.
Three minutes later, Felix Afena-Gyan had his chance to score and made no mistake as he poked home a pass from Gideon Mensah.
Continuing to dominate the contest, Ghana sealed a 3-0 in the 68th minute when Osman Bukari equalised with a fine goal.
Courtesy of the win today, Ghana tops Group E of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers ahead of the second game against the Central African Republic on June 5.
