Ghana’s men’s 4×100-meter relay team, which established a new national record of 37.79 seconds in Heat 2, will compete in the World Athletics Championships final in Tokyo on Sunday with the quickest qualifying time.

Together, Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu set a new record of 38.07 seconds, which they achieved at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.

Their effort put them ahead of more established sprinting powerhouses and earned them first place in their heat.

Canada and the United States are two of the teams obstructing their progress. The second-fastest time overall, 37.85 seconds, was recorded in the heats by Canada, the gold medallist in Eugene three years ago when Ghana last broke the national mark.

The Netherlands (37.95s), Japan (38.07s), Germany (38.12s), Australia (38.21s), and France (38.34s) round out the final lineup after the United States qualified with 37.98s.

Ghana will be looking to turn their record-breaking momentum into a historic podium finish when the eight quickest countries in the globe compete.
