Ghana’s delegation to the 2nd Global Summit on School Meals Coalition in Brazil was led by Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Hon. Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
By giving children in government schools delicious, wholesome meals with the following goals, the Hon. Minister demonstrated the excellent work the Ghanaian government is doing in the field of school feeding:
1) to address malnutrition and boost immunity and well-being of the children thereby reducing diseases and promote their growth
2) increase enrolment, attendance and retention
3) source for locally produced foods and create market for farmers
4) provide jobs for caterers and cooks.

She explained that more than 4.2 million youngsters in 12,000 basic schools are receiving meals under the initiative.
She also participated as a panelist and gave a compelling presentation on how research directly influenced the creation of the Ghana School Feeding Program. She also thanked Prof. Bundy, the moderator, for his involvement in the early research that informed decision-makers and resulted in Ghana’s significant investment in the lives of Ghanaian schoolchildren through the Ghana School Feeding Program and other social interventions.
She also provided goals for the future as well as some concrete measures to enhance the program.
Additionally, the Minister and her delegation met bilaterally with Ethiopian and Finnish delegations.
