GJA is accepting entries for the 29th Media Awards.

Members in good standing are encouraged to submit their best works for consideration in the 29th edition of the Ghana Journalists Association’s (GJA) Media Awards, which is already accepting entries.

The Association said that entries will be accepted from Friday, September 12, 2025, until Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 11:59 p.m., in a statement signed by Dominic Hlordzi, General Secretary of the GJA.

The GJA emphasized that after the deadline, no extensions will be given.

Works must have been broadcast or published between January 1 and December 31, 2024, in order to qualify. The official WeTransfer URL, https://we.tl/r-KqYf62tiQ0, is the only way to submit.

The Ashanti Regional capital, Manhyia, Kumasi, will host this year’s awards event, which is anticipated to be among the most remarkable in recent memory.

Qualifications for Entry:

  • Open to GJA members in good standing working in print, electronic, and online media.
  • Members of the National Executive and the GJA Media Awards Committee are not eligible.
  • Each applicant may submit entries in a maximum of two award divisions with not more than two works per division.
  • A single work cannot be submitted under more than one category.
  • Submissions must be clear, original published works.
  • All applicants must upload a passport-size photograph.
  • Student journalists must upload a scanned copy of a valid Student ID Card.
  • Entries must be titled “GJA Media Awards 2025” and should include the applicant’s personal details, media house, and contact information.
  • Applicants are encouraged to use a stable internet connection to ensure smooth uploading.

According to the GJA, if submissions in a category are deemed unworthy of recognition, the Awards Committee retains the power to not award anything.

Categories of Awards

Six divisions will give the honors, including:

  • Division One: News, Features, Documentaries, Columnists.
  • Division Two (Beats): Sports, Education, Investigative, Photojournalism, Arts & Entertainment, Business/Economics, Environment/Science, Health, Gender, Crime/Court, and the Akoto Ampaw Award for Democracy & Good Governance.
  • Division Three (Special Campaigns): Disability, Domestic Tourism, Road Safety, Illegal Mining.
  • Division Four (Programmes & Layout): Best Radio/TV Programme (English & Ghanaian Languages), Best Newspaper Layout.
  • Division Five (Promising Journalists): Best Student Journalist, Best Female Journalist, and Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist.
  • Division Six: The ultimate prize, the GJA/P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year.

From among the divisional awards, the overall winners of the Best Student Journalist of the Year, Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist, Best Female Journalist of the Year, and Journalist of the Year titles will be chosen.
