Growing Concerned On Manhyia Asuogya Roads

As it stands today, a road that should ordinarily last for few minutes, now take more than 30 to 40 minutes before he/she can reach their trips.

It has established that at least six expectant mothers in Manhyia, Asuogya, Mmetiam within the Atwima Nwabiagya South District of region have had their pregnancy ended prematurely after plying the only deplorable road linking their comminities to the main tared road to Abuakwa.

The deplorable state of roads in many parts of the district has resulted in many deaths and rising cases of maternal mortality.

This was revealed in a communal gathering on Monday when the residents trooped out in a bid to repair the damaged roads to lessen its effects on women and children.

Children and pregnant women also joined the exercise to fix the poor roads in the area.

The communities are without commercial transport and health care because of the nature of the road.

Tricycle and taxi has become the only means of transportation because of the bad nature of the roads.

Pregnant women and other patients are carried in this three -wheeled vehicle through the muddy roads to distanced health care facilities.

“A lot of women get miscarriages on this road, because of that they are even having problems with their husbands, they think it is their fault. Anytime the pregnant women are being transported to the Mankranso-Abuakwa main road with a Motor Kia, it falls and you know the pregnant woman is vulnerable and will get miscarriages. Just last two weeks we had two miscarriages whiles others has their legs and arms broken just as the result of this bad road”, a resident said.

Speaking in an interview with one the taxi driver who normally apply the road Mr Kwame Atuahene chanted that ‘NO Road, NO VOTE’ and vowed to deal with any politician who would step foot in the area to campaign.

The angry Residents also accused their DCE, Micheal Amoah Awuku and Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Agyei Anhwire of exploiting their silence.

Some residents fume that the assembly member for electoral area is siding with the politicians to deceive them, he wants to satisfy the politicians forgetting those of us who voted for him.

The residents also said they would go on a street protest if government fails to fix the roads.

Therefore, Government should not deprived the people Manhyia because it’s deserves dividends of democracy.

According to him, there were so many campaign promises made to the people Abuakwa Manhyia with regards to reconstruction of these roads which they await the MP and DCE fulfilment.

He therefore unrelentingly call on Government at all levels to put into consideration the dilapidated condition of their roads connecting to the Manhyia taxi rank to the inner lane of the community and also bring an end to this unfortunate situations.
