The three-day kissing marathon that was intended to break the Guinness World Record in Ekiti State has been declared illegal by the state government.

The longest world kissing marathon was set to begin on July 7 in a well-known amusement park in the state capital, according to a group going by the name of Sugartee in an advertisement running around the state and on social media.

However, the state government warned that any venue that sponsored the tournament would face serious sanctions in a letter dated July 3, 2023, from the Ministry of Arts and Culture issued to the Ekiti State Hoteliers Association.

The letter, which was signed by the director of tourism, Adebanji Adelusi, on behalf of the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dele Ogunsemoyin, stated that the ‘Kiss-a-thon’ event might damage the state’s reputation.

The statement states, “Kiss-a-thon” as an event is not only ludicrous, unhealthy, immoral, and capable of degrading the state’s reputation, but is also a programme that is at odds with the ideals of the state’s citizens and is thus capable of morally regressing our youth.

In light of the aforementioned, any venue that intends to continue operating legally in Ekiti State is prohibited from hosting this event or any others similar to it by the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism.

You are now urged to communicate the information in this Notice to the members of the Ekiti State Hoteliers’ Association so that they can properly supervise their establishments to prevent any improper use that might put the government and people of Ekiti State in a bad light.

It may be noted that Damilola Adeparusi, also known as Chef Dammy, recently finished a 120-hour Ilupeju-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area.

At the moment, one Adeola Adeyeye, identified as Chef DEO in Ile-Oluji, Ondo state is attempting to set a longest world cooking marathon of 150 hours.
