The name of one of Elvis Presley’s most well-known songs is “It’s Now or Never.” It’s also what 80-year-old Carole Davies felt when she finally had the chance to interact with a The King impersonator at a recent sold-out tribute concert in Cardiff.
The Brynmawr grandmother leaped out of her seat during the weekend performance of the critically acclaimed A Vision of Elvis show at St. David’s Hall in the capital to tell her singing idol—or, at least, the unnervingly accurate onstage approximation of him—that she had been waiting her entire life for this exact moment. The confrontation, in which the OAP superfan smacked Elvis and swiped at his face, drove the packed audience to its knees.
The 1960 song Are You Lonesome Tonight?, a favorite of both her and her late husband Graham, was later performed by Elvis for her. Her grandson Justin Davies, who was sitting nearby, recorded the entire amazing interaction.
“Last night, me and my Elvis-obsessed nan went to witness a Vision of Elvis down at St David’s Hall, Cardiff,” the 26-year-old actor wrote after the performance. My grandmother stood out among the tens of thousands of spectators when Elvis entered the arena.
“It made my evening and it probably made my nan’s life. Living life to the full in her 80s, without a single s**t given – be more like Nanny Carole.”
