At a historic ceremony held at Appiatse, the Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party; *Alhaji Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia* together with other high ranking Government officials including Ministers of State and the Board Chairperson of the Minerals Commission; *Hon. Lawyer Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi* commissioned 124 new housing units for the people of Apiatse community in Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency.
Barely two years after the unfortunate tragedy that occurred on Thursday, 20th January 2022, at Appiatse, the Vice President of the Republic Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Thursday, May 2, 2024, commissioned and handed over a 124unit housing project that officially signifies the resettlement of the Appiatse community.
The newly built structures range from one-bedroom to seven-bedroom units, with enhanced facilities, including a market, six-unit classroom and kindergarten blocks, inner roads, water and electricity, a drainage system and a water storage system.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia noted that the completion of Phase I and II of the Appiatse Reconstruction Project is indicative of the resilience, compassion, and indomitable spirit of the President; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and his Government.
Addressing the gathering, the Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party in Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency; *Hon Lawyer Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi* applauded all relevant stakeholders for seeing to the fulfilment of the President’s promise of rebuilding a modern rural community for the Apiatse community.
As a woman and knowing the needs of families moving into a new settlement, the President of Wassa Hemaa Foundation (WHF) donated 125 sets (three pieces per each set) of cooking utencils on behalf of the WHF plus 150 bags of 25kg rice, and 150 gallons of cooking oil to all the 124 housing units from Minerals Commission.
It’s worth noting that Hon Lawyer Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi besides leading the Minerals Commission to donate *Ghc 2,000,000.* to the Reconstruction Support Fund also personally donated towards medical bills of victims of the tradegy, supported economic activities of selected residents, provided cables worth *Ghc 50,000.* for the wiring of the temporary structures at Dumase which hosted the people pending completion of New Appiats..
The ceremony saw the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, breaking grounds for the construction of an additional 70-unit housing project, which is Phase Three of the Appiatse Reconstruction Project.
