In the wake of Sunday night’s torrential rains that caused severe flooding in parts of the Adentan Constituency, the Member of Parliament, Hon. Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, has called for lasting solutions to the persistent flooding challenges affecting the area.
On the night of the downpour, Hon. Ramadan braved the elements and, together with the Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces, rescued several residents trapped in their homes by the rising floodwaters. His timely intervention provided much-needed relief and hope to many distressed families.
Determined to go beyond emergency response and tackle the root causes of the flooding, the MP led a high-powered delegation on Monday morning to assess the extent of the devastation. The delegation included the Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) officials at the National, Regional, and Municipal levels, and the Municipal Chief Executive.
The team toured the most affected communities, engaged with residents, and gathered firsthand information to help guide coordinated efforts toward preventing future occurrences. The MP stressed the urgent need for sustainable drainage systems, improved urban planning, and continued collaboration among government agencies to safeguard lives and property. He also appealed to benevolent organisations and individuals to support the affected residents in this difficult time.
This intervention reflects Hon. Ramadan’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of his constituents and his resolve to ensure that no community is left behind during times of crisis. As Adentan begins the recovery process, the MP has assured residents that he, together with the Municipal Assembly, will continue to advocate for lasting solutions to the flooding menace.
He further called on residents to refrain from building on waterways, noting that such practices significantly contribute to the recurring floods and must be curtailed to prevent future disasters.
