Re-registration of SIM cards: Today, Friday, October 1, the bulk re-registration of subscriber identity module (SIM) cards across the country will commence.
Data from all SIM card users across the country is likely to be collected over the six-month program.
The Ghana Card, the country’s national ID card, is the only form of identity required for the exercise.
How to register your sim card with Ghana card
Stage One
Step 1. Dial *404#
Step 2. Enter Ghana card pin. Enter the letters and figures without the hyphens
Step 3. Confirm Ghana card pin
Step 4. Enter surname
Step 5. Enter first name
Step 6. Enter date of birth (DDMMYY)
Step 7. Select sex
Step 8. Confirm details
Step 9. Submit details provided after confirmation
1. If successful, you get a confirmation message with a unique code.
2. If unsuccessful due to wrong details, you have 3 attempts to answer security questions
3. If unsuccessful due to verification failure at the National Identification Authority (NIA), you will be informed to contact the NIA
Stage Two
You then visit your service provider (Agent or Customer Care) to complete this stage of registration.
In case the USSD is not working, it may be due to pressure on the system. You can try it in the night or early morning.
Why You have to register your SIM card.
All unregistered SIM cards will be deactivated or blocked by end of March 2022.
It will help the security forces to rule out fraudsters and deal with them accordingly.
It will help to identify SIM card owners when dealing with mobile money transactions and electronic payments.
The security agencies will be able to track any inferior, illegal activities, inciting violence, treats, money fraud, SIM BOX fraud etc.
