A 41-year-old Fatima Mabodo of Mpalawani village in Matabeleland South Territory, nearly lost her arm after her ex-lover viciously hit her with a machete for supposedly dumping him.
The occurrence which has left people shell- shocked was reported to the police prompting the arrest of the suspect identified as a 50-year-old Stanford Shumba.
It is claimed that Shumba showed up before the Bulawayo Shortgame accused of attempted murder.
He pleaded not guilty but was indicted after a full preliminary and condemned to five years detainment of which one year was suspended on state of acceptable conduct. Shumba will serve a viable four years behind bars.

“I was in love with Fatima up to the time of the occurrence of the incident. I went to her home shortly after 11pm intending to sləəp there. I found her with another man sitting on the bÉ™d while kiss! ng.
Her boyfriend reached for an iron rod intending to strike me and I also tried to strike him with a machete. Unfortunately Fatima blocked it with her hand and she was struck in the process.
I got heart-broken when I found her with another man because she (Fatima) had infected with a eÉ™Xually transmitted infection (ST).” In his defence he said.
It was the State’ s case that on the day being referred to, Shumba went to his ex-lover’ s home and when he arrived, he constrained himself inside the room without knocking and found Fatima applying lotion on her body.

After committing the terrible occurrence, Shumba ran away from the area. Fatima
was rushed to Zvishavane District Hospital for clinical assessment. Shumba was subsequently arrested.
