Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and the MP for Damongo constituency has stated that, his Ministry was working hand in hand with some law enforcement agencies to take appropriate action to deal with the operators of illegal sand winning.
He said this on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, when he was asked by the MP of Ketu South, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, on the steps being taken by his Ministry to halt the illegal sand winning practices within her constituency.
According to him, law enforcement agencies together with the Minerals Commission have put in place some measures to ensure that, the lands lost due to this practice are safely reclaimed. According to Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, some operators engaging in illegal sand winning have registered with the Minerals commission to engage in the safer and acceptable way of sand winning.
Additionally, the MP of Ketu South sought assurance from the Lands and Natural Resources minister on whether he would be present in the constituency to ensure that his previous statements would be put into action.
He replied that he would “surely be present.”
