Engage Now Africa (ENA), in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Suhum and the Ghana Education Service (GES), joined the global community to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child.
Over 150 students participated in international day commemoration.
The event provided a platform for the Municipal Girl Child Officer to empower students by addressing them on the importance of their role in shaping the future, emphasizing that the future is bright and depends on the contributions of women.
The Ghana Health Service used the opportunity to educate the students on key topics such as adolescence and breast cancer, ensuring they were well-informed about important health issues.
ENA also took time to raise awareness on human trafficking, explaining its nature and consequences.
The students were highly engaged asking numerous questions about human trafficking and the role of parents who give their children away demonstrating a deep interest in the topic .
By the end of the event, four victims were identified—two were involved in child labor, while the other two were victims of sexual exploitation. These cases are currently under investigation by ENA in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare.
The girls left the event feeling encouraged, as the engagement revealed the vulnerability many of them face and reinforced the need for continuous support and protection.
