The arrest of key suspects in major criminal acts, including as the GH₵7.5 million daylight robbery at Adabraka, has resulted in considerable security gains, according to the Ghana Police Service.

An impersonated soldier, an arms dealer, home robbery gangs, and infamous phone-snatching syndicates in Accra and Tema have also been arrested.

During a news conference in Accra on Wednesday, COP Ms. Lydia Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), verified the happenings.

According to her, the Ghana Police Service is still stepping up intelligence-led operations as part of its plan to stop the spread of illicit weapons, cybercrime, and violent crime.

She revealed that Salim Mohammed, also known as Fariwata, was taken into custody by the police on November 20, 2025, at an Ashaiman hospital, some months after armed men stopped a car carrying GH₵7.5 million from a gold deal.

Before taking off with the cash, the suspects wounded the driver and fired several shots to scatter onlookers.

The suspect and his associates utilised AK-47 assault rifles during the attack, according to preliminary findings. The CID chief said that efforts are still underway to apprehend the remaining accomplices and retrieve the pilfered money.

Five members of a well-known phone-snatching and robbery organisation that operated throughout areas of Accra and Tema were also apprehended, according to the CID.

Seth Tetteh Noi (Wonder), Emmanuel Selasi Monyekor, Abdul Fatao Sameed, Karam Fatao, and Abdul Jamel Mohammed are among those detained.

Investigations have connected the group to the robbery of mourners at Ashaiman Under Bridge, where victims lost goods valued at over GH₵200,000. Police have discovered a handgun and a pump pump-action gun that are thought to have been used in many robberies.

According to COP Donkor, “these arrests followed coordinated intelligence operations which also foiled a planned robbery at the Ashaiman China Mall.”

A violent domestic robbery at Appolonia resulted in the arrest of eight perpetrators. Helmets, boots, a cutlass, and a body armour vest were among the items found.

“We have made significant progress in linking the suspects to organised residential robberies. Investigations continue,” the police said.

In several areas of Ashanti, Eastern Regions, and Greater Accra, police also detained a man posing as a soldier.

Two handguns, live ammunition, a bayonet, handcuffs, and other equipment were taken from him when he was apprehended while wearing full military camouflage.

Abdulai Ibrahim, an alleged guns dealer, was detained in Accra after trying to sell a CZ rifle for GH₵35,000. He acknowledged that he had previously shipped seven pump-action weapons to the Northern Region.

The head of CID gave assurances that the police are trying to break up the network that supplies illegal firearms and stop them from being distributed.

In a similar development, Pergringo Braimah Abubakah Sadick, popularly known as Cyborg, was found guilty by the CID of illegally firing a pistol in public. His firearm licence was cancelled and he was fined GH24,000.

As part of the ongoing Gun Amnesty Program, COP Donkor invited the public to turn in illegal firearms.

“The Police Service remains committed to enforcing the law and ensuring public safety. We appreciate the cooperation of the public and media in this fight against crime,” she stated.
