Tension is mounting at Aburi Atweasin as land guards have invaded the Chief’s Palace to destroy him.
The Queen mother of Atweasinman tried to destool Atweasinhene Nana Frimpong Kodua who is also the Akuapem-Adontenman vice chief of Aburi, the Queen mother tried several times to destool the chief and replace him with another person, which the sub-chiefs didn’t allowed it, this brought misunderstanding between the traditional rulers in Atweasin.
Aftermath the Queen mother stood up again against the Atweasinhene together with the abusuapenin Kwame Gyan to destool the chief and replace him with another person.
The Chief of Atweasin. Nana Frimpong Kodua and his elders received a letter purported to come from the Akuapim Traditional Council and signed by the Okuapemhene that, the Okuapemhene has destooled the Atweasinhene. The purported letter of destoolment is being challenged and doubted by the Chief and elders of Atweasin, as the Okuapemhene is not the proper person to destool any sub-chief as per the custom and practices of the Akuapim people.
The custom and practices of the people of Akuapim, and the provisions of the Chieftaincy Act of Ghana, do not permit for a Chief or Queen mother to be destooled by a ‘common letter’ when the Chief has not been heard based on charges made against him.
The Elders of Atweasin did their investigations and found out that the purported letter that the Queen mother brought to destool the Chief of Atweasin was did not come from the Okuapemhene.
On 23rd October 2023, the so-called self-acclaimed chief who’s name is Dr. Offei Amonor ambushed them in the Atweasin chief Palace with land guards which they claim to be National security to beat and brutalised the whole family members both women, men and children.
The Elders officially reported the case to the Aburi Police, where police medical forms were issued to the victims to go for treatment at the hospital and return the meeical report to them which they complied. Till today the police has not invited anyone, or taken any action.
The matter was subsequently reported the matter to the Akropong Division of the Ghana Police Service, but no action has been taken by the Akropong Division too.
On the 7th January 2024, the Atweasinhene Nana Frimpong Kodua and his elders were in the Palace to observe the Akwasidea occasion, then one Dr. Offei Amanor, a self- acclaimed Osiahene stormed the Palace and ambushed them with a van full of armed land guards and another Lexus SUV car full of armed men from Formed Police Unit( FPU) from Kumasi to harrass and intimate the Chief and his elders.
The Mmbrantehene (Youth Chief) asked them their mission and why they showed up in the middle of their rituals performance time, Dr. Offei and his people replied them that they also came to perform their (Akwesidei) rituals, so that they can proceed to install their new chief, the elder of the youths try to retaliate but one of the policeman asked him to keep mute and never author a word again.
According to the Mmrantehene of Atweasin, certain persons within the Atweasin family are behind all these happenings, all in their bid to usurp the reigns of the Atweasinhene. This, according to the Elders of Atweasin is being ochestrated by one Nana Opare Kwafo. According to sources Nana Opare Kwafo has vowed to destool the Atweasinhene, Nana Frimpong Kodua due to their disagreement on certain matters at the Atweasin Oyoko family in Aburi. According to our information, Nana Opare Kwafo has made himself so powerful that he is able to compromise and manipulate the Aburi Police and certain high profile Chiefs in the Akuapim Traditional area.
As a result of the compromised position of the Aburi Police service that is why they are pleading with the government and the National security.
He added that, “our lives are in danger, so we’re calling on the government and the National Security for protection to ensure that peace is prevails in Atweasin community, in Aburi.
