Daybreak’s investigations have revealed that despite a ban on the operations of land guard activities in the country, land goons are brazenly operating in developed and developing settlements in Accra and outside Accra.
Ostensibly a protected species, some of these land guards continue to find protection owing to their connection with police commanders and detectives, making it stressful for disadvantaged but lawful land owners and developers to pursue justice in protecting their property.
An ongoing case is found in the activities of a certain Nana Agyei Aggrey, the Mawrehene of Akuapem, in the Eastern Region, suspected to be to have organised thugs, with the involvement of police, to beat up security personnel employed by Treadstone Empire Company Ltd., to man its walled land at Adjiringanor, in Accra.
The victims, named Yaw Agba and Aisha Kere of Stallion Tiger Security Services, subsequently lodged a complaint to the East Legon District Police, who are investigating the alleged act of assault on the two private security personnel in charge on the day of the alleged act.
A police report on the day of the incident states that on the day in question, they were on duty when a group of men numbering nearly a dozen arrived in an excavator and broke into a fence wall n the premises threatening them.
Before they could respond to any verbal threats, the suspects had pounced on them and beaten them to pulp.
Uniforms torn and bruised, they reported the matter and were given forms to fill and see a doctor, who treated them and processed the form for police action.
According to the medical form, the two sustained injuries as a result of the assault on them.
When Nana Agyei was contacted by the police, he claimed ownership of the land, in a document signed by the District Police Officer, ASP Samuel Dzaka.
While several witnesses, including one Nana Ofori Antwi Boasiako aka Incantation, are pointing to Nana Aggrey Adjei as the organiser of the alleged act of assault and attempted land theft, the case lingers at the police station.
Incantation also told police he is aware about an ongoing litigation over the land.
Incantation is alleged to be a notorious landguard who, with police backing torments residents and anyone who crosses him. He is reported to have started his trade from Darkoman where he was nicknamed ‘419’ Akwaanye and now Incantation.
Besides that, he would not confirm Nana Adjei Aggrey truly owns the land or really perpetrated the alleged acts of assault but claims he was only involved because he lived next to the property.
The case of landgaurd is soaring that recently, in another spate of land guard activity at Kasoa, a land goon allegedly tolerated by police shot and killed a soldier said to be a lawful owner of a land under litigation.
The Adjiringanor and Trasacco assault and land guard case under investigation with the lawyers of the two parties firing missiles at each other ad nauseam.
Meanwhile, lawyers of Treadstone Empire Company Ltd., have written a letter in response to an earlier letter dated August 16, 2024 on behalf of Nana Ofori Antwi-Bosiako threatening to take action against Treadstone Empire Company Ltd. for interfering with execution of High Court judgement.
Treadstone Empire Company Ltd. noted that the threats of a legal action against the company are welcome because, the company has several reports and dossier of official and documentary evidence which confirm the fact that Nana Ofori Antwi-Bosiako employing and leading thugs into the company’s land and destroying structures under construction.
The letter further went on to school Nana Ofori Antwi-Bosiako and his lawyers that, “It is trite legal knowledge and the Supreme Court recently so decided that once a judgment has been fully executed, anyone aggrieved by this execution or has any questions about the judgment which was executed ought to commence a fresh action at the High Court to contest the judgment and the execution.”
