After a security briefing following his return from a state visit to Singapore, President John Dramani Mahama has ordered a more aggressive reaction to tensions in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region.
During his visit, the President called Yagbonwura Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I to explore ways to resolve the problem and bring peace back between the Gonja and Brifor communities, according to a statement signed by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP).
In an attempt to promote mediation and reconciliation, a government delegation headed by Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak has been dispatched to meet with the Yagbonwura and other important local parties.
Additional police and military personnel have been sent to strengthen local security.
All parties were urged by President Mahama to back the efforts being made to put a stop to the fighting and return things to normal.
He gave the delegation instructions to cooperate with the regional security council, traditional leaders, and community members in order to foster communication, settle unresolved conflicts amicably, and maintain law and order.
