The Pwalugu Tomato Factory would be reopened as part of the Upper East Region’s larger economic agenda, according to President John Dramani Mahama.

The president said steps are being taken to allow the factory to reopen for business as usual.

He revealed that a new high-yield tomato seed type with a greater flesh content has been provided to farmers in the factory’s catchment areas. This variety was chosen especially to satisfy the factory’s processing needs.

According to President Mahama, the intervention is anticipated to increase tomato output, lower post-harvest losses, generate employment, and foster the development of the region’s agro-industrial sector.

Additionally, he said, the move will give local farmers a stable market.

During a courtesy call to the Accra Presidency, he was speaking to members of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs.
