A former lunch aid at a school in New Fairfield, Connecticut, has been accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student.
Andie Paige Rosafort allegedly groomed the teenager through text messages and social media, including Snapchat and Instagram, over a six-month period before engaging in sexual activity with him. Rosafort has been charged with second-degree sexual assault, enticing a minor by computer, and risk of injury to a minor.
The allegations against Rosafort were brought to light after a friend of the victim told her parents about the suspected sexual activity. According to the affidavit, Rosafort had sent nude photographs and videos to the teenager, including images of herself masturbating, and had asked him to send nude photos of himself in return.
Rosafort is alleged to have attended the victim’s sports games and sent him videos of himself playing. Police collected evidence that the victim and Rosafort were in the same location when the alleged sexual assaults occurred, and investigators found a shirtless photo of the victim on Rosafort’s phone.
It has emerged that Rosafort had previously met with district officials to discuss “concerns regarding social media and maintaining appropriate boundaries and communication with students.” However, an investigation at the time determined that her actions were not inappropriate.
Rosafort turned herself in last month and posted a $100,000 bond. She was released on the condition that she has no contact with any minors other than her own children and is no longer allowed on social media.
Rosafort has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and her next court appearance is scheduled for March 23. The charges against Rosafort are severe, and if found guilty, she could face significant prison time.
It is essential for all educational institutions to ensure that all employees, including lunch aids, are thoroughly vetted and regularly monitored to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
