The former president of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, recently had cause to lament about this dangerous trajectory of an already porous educational framework.
However, Bolgatanga Girls Secondary School, BOGISS in Bolga in the Upper East Region, has over the years maintained high levels of discipline in matters of examination.
The school was viewed as a no-go area for such exam malpractices, ensuring a standard enviable by many of its pears. Indeed, it is public knowledge in that part of the country that, parents from neighboring countries such as Burkina Faso, would do everything it takes to enroll their daughters in the school.
All these could not have been achieved without absolute discipline from the head of academics of the school(Name with held). He maintained the status qoe of ensuring high standards.
However, his efforts to keeping high standards were seen as an obstacle to the Headmistress Mad. Patricia Anaaba Agoteba and her cabal comprising of Stanislaus kwabena Napaala the newly appointed Assistant Headmaster Academic, and some teachers.
To the Headmistress and her cabal, they simply needed to get good results to add to the praise singing phenomenon associated with the Free Senior High School program implementation.
To ensure that they get the Assistant Headmaster Academics out of the way, they tagged him as being a problem for the school. They labeled all manner of unsubstantiated allegations against him in order to make him look bad in the face of the appointing authorities.
Well, they eventually got their way through ensuring that the regional education director pushes the hardworking Assistant Headmaster Academics to Chiana SHS and later to another school within the region.
Regrettably, the removal of the Assistant Headmaster Academics, has sent the image of the school to the lowest point in the school’s history. On 3rd September 2024, while the Elective Mathematics paper was being written, officials of WAEC who were on their usual supervisory rounds in the region, caught the Assistant Headmaster Academics pants down.
Apparently, he had come into the examination hall with a second batch of worked and photocopied answers for distribution to the candidates. But on sensing the arrival of the officials from WAEC, he had no option than to hide the papers in the wash room.
One of the officers noticing the unusual movement of the candidates into the wash room decided to find out what was happening. To his utmost surprise, a rim of paper photocopied with solved answers was hidden under a desk to be distributed to the candidates.
It was a terrible embarrassment to the Headmistress, the new Assistant Headmaster Academics, and the entire school body. Having ousted the man who in effect was the face of the school’s enviable image, they were emboldened by his absence to now embark on an all out cheating sprea. But unfortunately, luck eluded them.

Maybe, it is time for the regional education director of Upper East to reconsider his decision of unfairly transferring the Assistant Headmaster. He has served the school well and does not deserve the kind of treatment mated out to him. Mass Examination Malpractice At Bolga Girls SHS
