MINISTER FOR LABOUR LEADS HIGH-POWERED DELEGATION TO INSPECT ENCROACHED MDPI LANDS AT BATSONA IN ACCRA
The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, has led a high-level delegation to Batsona to inspect and assess lands belonging to the Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI) that have been encroached upon by squatters.
The delegation included key management members of the Ministry, the Director-General of MDPI, Prof. Elijah Yendaw, and the Board Chairman of MDPI, Sesay Salifu Abdul-Qadir. The visit formed part of the Ministryβs renewed efforts to reclaim and safeguard state lands and reposition them for their original developmental and institutional purposes.
During the inspection at Batsona, the Minister interacted directly with some squatters found on the land. He firmly but respectfully informed them that the Ministry was determined to reclaim all MDPI properties that had been unlawfully occupied, stressing the governmentβs commitment to retrieving state assets that have gone astray.
Hon. Dr. Pelpuo stated that the reclaimed MDPI land would be redeveloped and used for its intended purpose, particularly to promote human resource development, productivity improvement, and institutional capacity building in line with the Instituteβs mandate. He emphasized that illegal occupation of public land hinders national development and assured that necessary measures would be taken to protect government property.
After the Batsona inspection, the Minister and his team proceeded to the Krowor Municipal Assembly, as part of the MDPI land falls within the Krowor Municipality. The delegation paid a courtesy call on the Municipal Coordinating Director, where discussions were held on land administration and inter-agency collaboration.
The Minister highlighted the need for cooperation between central government institutions and local authorities to protect public lands and prevent future encroachment. He noted that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) play a major role in monitoring land use and enforcing planning regulations.
Members of the delegation included the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Hamidu Adaklugu, Esq.; the Chief Internal Auditor, Mr. Dela Sabbah; the Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Eyram D. K. Tottimeh Jnr.; and the Estate Officer of the Ministry, Mr. Mohammed Ansah, among others.
The media were also present to provide coverage of the inspection and engagements, reflecting the Ministryβs commitment to transparency, accountability, and public awareness in managing state assets.
The visit marks a significant step in the Ministryβs broader agenda to recover, secure, and redevelop its propertiesβparticularly MDPI lands earmarked for national capacity development and productivity enhancement.
