Minister of Foreign Affairs has bilateral meeting with Japan’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On Thursday, January 15, 2026, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Her Excellency Dr. Kunimitsu Ayano, who is on a Working Visit to Ghana, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
A business delegation consisting of thirty-five (35) Japanese enterprises travels with the State Minister.
This is anticipated to strengthen ties between the two nations’ private sectors and encourage investment and commerce for mutual gain.
The Minister praised Japan for its long-standing collaboration with Ghana and the fortitude shown by Japanese businesses in the face of Ghana’s current economic difficulties.

Citing currency stabilisation, falling inflation, and advancements under the IMF program, he provided an update on Ghana’s macroeconomic outlook.
According to him, the developments offer a chance for investment, particularly as the government pursues industrialisation, value addition, and growth driven by exports.
In order to maintain supply and quality, he highlighted Ghana’s cocoa exports to Japan and reiterated the government’s commitment to reviving cocoa output through farm rehabilitation, extension services, and productivity enhancement.
Both sides acknowledged that the approaching milestone anniversaries in 2027 would present a chance to deepen ties between Japan and Ghana.
These anniversaries include the 50th anniversary of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) program in Ghana, the 70th anniversary of Ghana and Japan establishing diplomatic ties, and the 100th anniversary of Dr. Hideyo Noguchi’s arrival and work in Ghana.
Both parties concurred that these achievements should be used to showcase the two nations’ long-standing cooperation as well as to look into new opportunities for cooperation.
Dr. Kunimitsu Ayano emphasised the close historical ties between Ghana and Japan while expressing gratitude for the cordial reception.
She mentioned Dr. Hideyo Noguchi’s lasting influence in Ghana, highlighting its importance in fostering better interpersonal ties between the two nations.

She emphasised the significance of a stable and investor-friendly business climate for Japanese companies operating in Ghana while applauding Ghana’s continuous economic recovery and reform initiatives.
Mr Yuya Nakamura, the CEO of Axelspace, stated that the private sector is interested in Ghana’s development goal and reiterated the friendly ties between the two nations.
He emphasised prospects for collaboration in cutting-edge technologies, pointing out that collaborations in fields like space technology might help achieve national development goals, especially in public service delivery, agriculture, and climate resilience.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa reaffirmed the government’s dedication to science, technology, and innovation as major forces behind growth and pointed out that continued communication and collaboration will fortify the Ghana-Japan alliance.
The conference was attended by His Excellency Hiroshi Yoshimoto, the Japanese ambassador to Ghana, and Mr. Taro Kawase, the director of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ First Africa Division.
