The Ashanti Regional Police Command has initiated a large-scale security operation ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays, with over 1,000 policemen deployed across the area to preserve peace and order.

During a press briefing at the Regional Headquarters, Regional Police Commander DCOP Osei Akoto Arthur stated that heightened personnel visibility is intended to deter crime, ease holiday traffic, and ensure a quick response to emergencies.

“We are on the ground to ensure the free flow of vehicles and to deter criminals who often exploit crowded markets and festive gatherings,” according to him. “Our presence is meant to reassure residents and visitors that we are ready to act.”

The commander also gave the public important safety advice, advising them to stay vigilant when navigating crowded retail centres and to stay away from dimly lit or remote regions at night. He underlined that the operation’s success still depends on public collaboration.

He said, “We urge all Ghanaians to take these precautions seriously. We can make this holiday season peaceful for everyone if we work together.”

The Command states that officers will continue to be heavily present at big public events, shopping malls, and transit hubs. High-risk areas now have more patrols, and makeshift checkpoints have been established to stop illicit firearms, stolen goods, and suspicious activity.

Personnel have been asked to undertake random spot inspections and communicate with community members in order to gather intelligence and address issues.

Citizens have been encouraged to report any suspicious behaviour immediately.

“Your vigilance helps us act faster and prevents crime before it happens,” Dr. Arthur said.
